How does a gematria calculator work

Gematria is an ancient system of assigning numerical values to Hebrew letters for the purpose of finding meaning in words. A gematria calculator is a tool used to assist in finding the numerical value of a word or phrase, as well as its associated meanings. It is most commonly used to study the Torah and other Hebrew scriptures, but it can be applied to any text including English words.

The gematria calculator works by converting each letter in a word or phrase into its corresponding numerical value. In Hebrew, each letter has a numerical value assigned based on its placement in the alphabet. For example, the letter א (aleph) is equivalent to 1, while the letter ת (tav) is equivalent to 400. Some letters have multiple values depending on where they appear and whether they are written with dots or lines (cantillation marks). Gematria calculators assign these numbers by using existing databases containing kabbalistic tables and lexicons.

Once all of the numbers have been assigned, they are added up and the total result is called the gematriya sum. This sum can then be used as a basis for interpretation and analysis of the text in question. The sum will reveal insights about how two different words or phrases are related, can provide symbolic insight into an entire passage from scriptures, or simply offer interesting tidbits about individual words or hidden messages in verses.
